Do I stay or do I go?

How does this chapter end?

My mom’s Avon lady

When I was little, my mom would have a monthly (or maybe weekly, who knows) party around our kitchen table with all her neighborhood friends. Mom’s friend, Ione Bannister, would come over with her Avon loot and the ladies would shop and talk. There may have even been Tupperware parties here and there - but I always remember Ione and getting a bath with Skin-so-Soft that night.

Fast forward to when my mom passed away and I used my home sales business to keep my mind occupied and make a little money to help with those things she used to help us with, and then some. My little home business paid for cheer fees, swim fees, groceries and eventually our vacations. It was a wonderful little thing I had going! But all good things eventually come to an end and I found myself looking for another company to sell for 5 years later.

In came Sseko when I fell in love with the belt bag I saw on a friend of mine. I purchased one from her party, then hosted my own, then quickly jumped on board with this gorgeous company of inspirational women selling products in order to support our Sseko sisters in East Africa and India. But guess what, my regular customers were more of the bi-monthly, smaller purchase people. They loved the idea of new collections happening 4-5 times a year, with price points at less than $100 and lots of incentives.

Just recently a friend said “I’ve been watching your Sseko business, but it wasn’t until I actually received a piece, smelled it, felt it, that I realized just how high quality it is.” People still love their name brand bags no matter how often I ask them if they know where it was made or whether the leather was ethical or whether the purse helped women globally. I can’t share just how much it means to me that a women made the bag that I carry every day and that my bag is helping her live out her dream of attending university and building a better life for herself.

To be honest, I’m completely overwhelmed with work these days! I LOVE my new job!! I’m crazy about working with my new boss, and I have fun nearly everyday. I get home completely exhausted and between my job, spending time with family or over at Crescent Bar as much as possible, I just don’t have time for vendor shows or in-home Sseko events.

So here I sit, at a Starbucks (which I haven’t had time to do in awhile) wondering just how much longer I can keep this up. Do I hang up my hat on the whole home-business business?

I honestly miss all my old customers and our monthly communications. I wonder how they are all are … and I love watching their lives unfold on Facebook because we’re all still friends!

Oh what to do … what to do. I WILL be placing orders next week for some friends who will be ordering the “Like a Girl” is a Compliment tee shirts. Another friend has her eye on a few of the sale items. Maybe ya’ll just need me to reach out and nag you a bit more because you forget you liked something when I post about it.

If you read this and have an opinion, please let me know! I’d love to hear from you, whether it be to say hello, to tell me you want to order, to tell me to continue with Sseko because you believe in the mission, to go find another jewelry business to sell for because that’s your jam, or to throw in the towel because should try doing something different. Regardless of the reason, I thank God that I’ve had such a great run with home businesses because I feel confident about my ability to now live without my mom and it’s given me so many more wonderful people in my life.

Gotta run and pick up my kid who’s home from college this weekend.

Gabby out .. for now.

For the Spring 2020 "Hopefully Yours" Collection, we traveled the world in search of the most stunning materials and the most beautiful stories. We shot this catalog in Joshua Tree National Park as the Joshua Tree is a symbol of faith, hope and resilience in the midst of harsh conditions.

I still sell stuff ... ya know

From Jewelry to Ethical Fashion

Just a little change … but I still love it

It’s not jewelry - but it’s better!

Just a little reminder that I still enjoy retail sales, especially when it comes to being social through my home business. Selling with Chloe + Isabel meant so much to me and the jewelry was absolutely gorgeous! When I felt the leadership change, I rushed into Sseko Designs, being drawn by the ethical fashion and the inspirational founder, Liz Bohannon. She may be tiny, but she is mighty! She has mighty plans for her little company (founded in Portland, OR) and the products are dreamy.

I would LOVE to set up a time and day to celebrate the upcoming holiday season with your friends and family by sharing the joy and beauty of Sseko Designs. The beautiful leather bags and accessories, clothing, jewelry, shoes and custom ordering. We have something for everyone on your list, even the hard to buy guys.

I’m an almost empty nester ladies and have loads of time to devote to giving you FREE items. Hit me up for dates and times that work with your schedule. NO gathering is too small … I’ll even host in my home if you want to come order from my display and avoid cleaning your house. =)

You know where to find me …

Chloe & Isabel Closing Tomorrow

It’s been a great run!

Gorgeous designs, money-saving convertibility and a beautiful story.

I took a look in my Chloe & Isabel Boutique page and there are items as low as $1 when you get to checkout and the additional 30% off is taken off. Up to 85% off most everything … and then you take an additional 30% off of that. It’s really clearing the racks and calling “last call” for the deals.

Is it really too early to start shopping for Christmas gifts? Refilling the birthday gift drawer? You only have about 24-hours until they close the site for shopping.

public.jpeg

So here it is, my last time telling you …

Chloe & Isabel is having a sale you don’t want to miss!

So much love to you all for your amazing support over the years! I sold over $88,000 worth of jewelry to you fine people and collectively you helped me through a very tough period in my life. What would I have done without all of your rallying around my little jewelry business?

God Bless and Gabby OUT!

Copy of Well, I've never seen THIS before ...

Chloe + Isabel closing

But let’s roll out a new collection anyway!

Announcing the release of 3 new collections …

Travalera De Puebla

Status Links

Dandelyan Pave

All for 30% off

I can’t say as I have ever seen an online retailer stay open to offer big discounts to customers on remaining inventory, but then release 3 new collections only 2 weeks away from closing its doors forever. The designers must have been in production long before the corporate big bosses decided to shut down the company. But it’s definitely our gain! Let me give you a little overview of the collections and what I’m picking up before July 31st.

public.jpeg

Travalera De Puebla

Inspired by the storied traditions of Spanish Tavalera pottery, this necklace, featuring deep shades of blue and green paired with acrylic pearl, brings artisan intricacies to life in one stunning statement piece.

This collection features a long necklace, statement earrings and statement bracelet. Of course, the necklace could be paired with its counterpart for maximum convertibility with the next collection, the Status Links.

public.jpeg

Status Links

Every wardrobe deserves the classic stylings of the Status Links. Shiny gold and attention to detail with three lengths put this piece on constant rotation.

I love the simplicity of this set and that the necklace has a 4” extender to allow for greater flexibility. The earrings could easily be paired with the Tavalera De Puebla and features a necklace, statement earrings, slide bracelet and ring.

public.jpeg

Dandelyan

Apparently this dandelyn stone was created for Chloe + Isabel. It’s beautiful pink and green glass stone makes a statement! The necklace is dreamy and goes from short to very long, something you don’t always see in our very “Isabel-like” pieces. The ring is a definite statement with its princess cut center stone surrounded by pave diamonds around the band. I can see this one becoming your most swoon-worthy piece and one that makes your friends jealous because it can no longer be found. Pair with any of the matching earrings or petite bracelet and you can go from lunch with the girls to rocker chic night out.

My Cart is in a constant state of flux, but currently I have the Tavalera De Puebla necklace in the cart specifically for my upcoming trip to Mexico. I’m going to pair it with my flowy, grey/white pin striped sundress/coverup and heels since I’m packing light and Mexico in August is bound to be warm. I also have the Status necklace and statement earrings in my cart for every day wear. I love how the necklace is petite but longer - I never stray too far away from necklaces below my collarbone. I keep going back and forth, but for now the Dandelyan ring and drop earrings are still in my cart. This stone is so gorgeous and I know my daughters will be head over heels for them if I decide to pass them along.

This shall be my final purchase with Chloe + Isabel and if you follow my IG account you’ll know that I’m selling off/giving away many of my inventory pieces, but recently made my favorite purchase of acryllic storage boxes from the Container Store (30% off now) to store those favorite pieces I will be keeping. (Photo below …)

Following the recent C+I corporate trend, another sale is right on the heels of the Anniversary sale. Christmas in July is clearing the racks with up to 80% off, including 30% off on all the NEW collections.

Only 2 weeks left to pick up your piece of history

My latest treasure chest. Just the favorites I’m keeping close to my heart.

Wow! It's a miracle!

Fashion, Chloe + Isabel, lifestyleGabby Jacobsen

I’m blaming my old eyes for this sudden miracle … because it’s the little surprises in life that make a day just go better.

I put off ordering the Blooms of Kyoto earrings until the closing of Chloe + Isabel was announced because I just hesitated wearing these beautiful statement earrings to work. And those of you who know me, I rarely purchase any fashion that can’t perform double duty in my office. But I purchased this dress from J.Jill that has tiny white flowers and they just needed these earrings. So I took the leap - figuring “hey, they’re on sale and should go with this dress to maybe fancier events” … but lo and behold … I received them on Saturday and decided to put the dress on today for work. Looked at the earrings to see how they looked with the dress and the CONVERTIBLE PIECE AT THE BOTTOM SLIPPED OFF! Hello Dolly … now they’re the perfect size large studs! I’d missed the fine print (and numerous pictures) showing the convertibility. Duh …

My day has officially just gotten better. Now I may go back for the red! Only $34 while supplies last.

Piece of History

Chloe + Isabel

It’s all how you see it …

Last week, Chloe + Isabel announced it would be closing its doors on July 31st. Unlike many other direct sales companies who announce their closure and shut the doors immediately, C+I is giving it’s faithful customers and merchies an opportunity to help them clear the racks with a great Semi-Annual sale and eventual clearing of all inventory.

A few of you who reached out when I quit my constant jewelry posts and combing for hostesses know that I saw this coming over a year ago.

When I discovered C+I following my mom’s death in 2013, it was my way of picking myself back up and putting my sorrow aside. I found wonderful new friends like my first leader, Amanda Nelson and my merchie sisters, Clara DiGuiseppe, Katie Wascisin-Hathaway and so many others. I got to be on the front lines of cool leaders like Gina Lucas, Jensine Reyes, Erin Dodd, Faye Calangian, Stefani Jacobsmeyer, Edlin Escobar, Malia Adams, Katie Johnson, Mallorie Corcoran and so many others. And of course, who can forget the woman who started it all, Chantel Waterbury.

We were a great group of women who ran successful businesses without the stress of recruiting, devaluing the jewelry constantly with sales and nearly impossible incentive trips. I loved the days when the Kate Spade purse or exclusive designs were gifted for my own personal sales, rather than tied to recruiting. My last SOAR conference, a few of us could see the writing on the wall when Chantel was replaced as CEO and suddenly all the cool girls were exiting stage left.

Many of these women are still my fashion icons in their bohemian style and savvy business sense. I’m still watching their success stories with other companies and of course Chantel’s new endeavor. I jumped in with both feet when Gina and Stefani started their monthly fashion box business.

I can’t begin to express how grateful I am to all of the wonderful friends I have met during my time as a merchie. There’s no way I would’ve met my friend Lisa Dusapin without her being a friend of a woman I met when I was booking a booking off an original connection. She will always be a friend - and I thank C+I for the mode of creating all of these special opportunities.

While I don’t have much inventory left, and some will always stay with me, I have taken a few minutes to place one last order. I borrowed the Queen Anne’s Lace set from my friend for my last trip to Vegas - but I always dreamed of owning it! I picked up the statement necklace and earrings for 40-50% off and I can’t say I’m that sorry about it.

Has there been a collection or piece that you’ve always dreamed about? You may want to check to see if it’s now on sale!

I can promise you one thing - I don’t think we’ll see the last of Chantel Waterbury. She’s one of the brightest women who understands the need for a great business base - and partnerships like the one she’s nourished with Ashton Kutcher and Jen Atkins. You may just decide to invest in a piece of history - and when you hear Chantel’s name you can say “I have a piece of her first business adventure!”

I love my life right now, even with my mom being gone, I feel stronger, happier and successful. I owe much of that to Chantel, my merchie sisters and new friends.

Much love,

Gabby

Winter Vibes

Don’t let the Artic air get ya

The Winter air is blowing in - well, not technically here in Seattle - but some parts of the US is waaay too cold for me. But if you are enjoying the snow and the sweaters and boots, then I have just the thing for you!

A few years ago, Chloe + Isabel featured the Northern Lights collection and several pieces from that collection have stood the test of time. Unlike those sweaters and boots, jewelry is seasonless! This pendant necklace is going to look just as beautiful with your summer dress or your tank top and shorts.

There’s only 2 days left until the end of the January. And then only 14 days until Valentine’s Day! Pick yourself up something pretty to wear out to dinner with your LOVE, or just because you need to spoil yourself a little. Either way - you can’t go wrong with a little sparkle.

Chloe + Isabel Spring Launch

IMG_2663.jpeg

Spring-Summer 2019

It’s a brand new year so I checked in with my Chloe + Isabel dashboard and realized just how close I am to reaching $100,000 in lifetime sales. Over 300 customers over the past 4 years fell in love with Chloe + Isabel, it’s quality, it’s warranty and the gorgeous designs. Nothings changed - so why not take a look at what’s new? Update your wardrobe with a fantastic new necklace or pair that new Apple Watch with some fancy bling. How about a new pair of earrings to go with that new 2019 haircut? Come look at what’s new and fresh!!

I’m booking weekend dates for Pop Ups. In home or business always work best. On average, guests will spend $125-$150 when attending a jewelry party. 8-9 friends, either in person or via catalog, will bring you a $1000 pop up which allows you to shop your bling for free.

I remember when I was a kid and mom’s Avon lady, Ione Bannister, used to come and meet up with the neighborhood ladies once a month around our kitchen table. They’d drink coffee and chat and shop.

When my kids were little, us moms used to get together for Stampin’ Up card parties, Creative Memories scrapbook parties … anything to allow us to gather in friendship and cookies. I miss those days!

You know me, I’m not a pushy, crazy sales person and I’ll never ask you or any of your friends to become part of a team. I bring beautiful things to your beautiful people and we all come away feeling a little sweeter and relaxed.

I’m booking dates this spring before the busy summer sets in … so don’t delay in contacting me for dates! Let’s get something on the books, and we can always change if need be.

It's a GREAT month for a sale ... apparently!

Time’s Running Out

On 2 of the best sales of 2019

I wouldn’t normally hit this 2 for 1 on my social media … but I’ve been pretty busy and so here it goes.

Both Sseko & Chloe + Isabel are having sales!!

Two of the loves of my life have been put on the back burner for awhile, but that doesn’t make them any less amazing.

IMG_2568.jpeg

Chloe + Isabel is having it’s Semi-Annual sale until Saturday, January 12th. Up to 75% off some of some gorgeous styles from the last few years. These are not pieces that are going out of stock, but clearing out warehouse space for new spring styles.

I’ve always said that C+I is home to some of the most gorgeous designs backed by amazing quality and lifetime warranty. I still wear mine daily … you can be assured that each piece is heirloom quality and you won’t be sorry (especially at 75% off!)

IMG_2473.png

Sseko is the latest love of my life and the Sseko Ssisterhood grabbed my attention with it’s story and handmade goods. I never leave home without a Sseko purse - and am holding my breath for all the new beautiful spring collection pieces I’ve pre-ordered. But, the Fall/Winter pieces are calling my name! I can’t believe there are so many gorgeous designs left in our warehouse - because with Sseko - often times when inventory is gone - it’s gone!

I actually can’t believe that the Eden Backpack is on sale! That baby is only $162! That’s incredible since it retails for $250! This is a HUGE fine leather backpack, pretty much good for any occasion. Made with so much love by artisans in Ethiopia. My favorite Sheba Purse is also on sale … the last time it was on sale I easily sold 5 of them! Everyone loves them - I carry mine daily.

IMG_2594.jpeg

Can we talk about the clothing for a bit - I never in a million years thought I’d wear a Kaftan but I have jumped in that pool with both feet! This is a beautiful dress that I have worn like crazy since I took a chance.

  • Summer with sandals - check!

  • Summer with wedges - check!

  • Wedding - check!

  • Swimsuit cover up - check!

  • Lounging around the house - check!

  • BBQ - check!

  • Church - check!

  • Movies - check!

  • Shopping - check!

  • Flight - check! (can you imagine showing up for your next flight ready for the upgrade to 1st class looking fully put together in a beautifully comfortable dress?)

So pretty much this dress can go anywhere. Now currently available in the Monet and the Dandelion prints on sale.

IMG_2591.jpeg

I want to talk about 1 more piece - the reversible longer blazer in black/dandelion print. It’s worth checking out and adding to your spring/summer/fall/winter wardrobe. Great for travel and I could easily see this being worn with shorts or skirts or pants or a dress for any occasion. Perfect for office or a night out with the girls … on sale now while supplies last!
